A student assistance program




















Key components are developmental curriculum and education, policy, staff and community in service and education, early identification, counseling support process, use of community resources, and ongoing evaluation. This mission is accomplished by providing strategies and support to the school community and parents to improve their ability to help students succeed in school.

The team also arranges other school and community resources as necessary for effective assistance to students. Program Goals: Provide strategies and support to the school community and parents by fostering the ability to be more successful in school.

Action Plan: Services offered by each level of education, for example: district, elementary, middle school, or high school. The Pennsylvania Student Assistance Program SAP is a systematic team process used to mobilize school resources to remove barriers to learning.

While Student Assistance Programs exist in other areas of the country, the structure and operation of the program in Pennsylvania is a unique expression of an integrated model serving the needs of Pennsylvania families and students.

Professional training conducted by a PA Approved SAP Training Provider PASTP is required for team members to ensure the appropriateness of the recommended services, effective interagency collaboration and compliance with state and federal laws protecting the privacy rights of parents and students.

Guidelines for the SAP K training system in Pennsylvania contain training standards and competencies to ensure SAP team professionals receive up-to-date professional training consistent with accountable standards and appropriate procedures.
