Windows server 2008 ldap authentication

Need to configure windows server for LDAP authentication versus users local to the server. How do I do that? Have been trying to find information and can not find any relevant informtion. I get the feeling you want LDAP authentication for your windows server to be handled by something other than Active Directory. You can use Active Directory Domain Services for this purpose. Once you will have your first DC up and running, you will be able to create domain users and do LDAP queries to the new domain.

Unsigned network traffic is susceptible to replay attacks. In such attacks, an intruder intercepts the authentication attempt and the issuance of a ticket. The intruder can reuse the ticket to impersonate the legitimate user. Additionally, unsigned network traffic is susceptible to man-in-the-middle MIM attacks in which an intruder captures packets between the client and the server, changes the packets, and then forwards them to the server. We recommend that you configure these clients not to use such binds.

After no such events are observed for an extended period, we recommend that you configure the server to reject such binds. If you update Windows to a newer version, you'll need to install the newer version of the Media Feature Pack even though you installed it for the previous Windows version.
